Alila Hotels and Resorts is a hotel management company currently operating in Indonesia, India and Oman, with its headquarters located in Singapore. The word Alila means "surprise" in Sanskrit, which is the philosophy behind its properties. Alila Hotels and Resorts adopts EarthCheck operating standards, and in 2014 enters strategic alliances with Commune Hotels & amp; Resorts. Histori
Alila Hotels and Resorts was established in May 2001 when their first property, "Alila Jakarta", opened its doors in the Indonesian capital. This brand was founded primarily by Mark Edleson, who today is the group president. Alila now operates 11 properties in Asia and is set to open 17 other hotels by 2018.
Alila's headquarters in Singapore are declared as carbon neutral, and in 2009 Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali became the first hotel built for the strict EarthCheck standard in Indonesia.

In December 2012, Alila Hotels and Resorts added the Phinisi sail boat liveaboard to their portfolio named Alila Purnama . It was the brand's first luxury liveaboard ship. Currently, ships sail over the waters of Indonesia Raja Ampat and Komodo areas.
Reopened October 1, 2017, Ventana Big Sur, formerly Ventana Inn & amp; Spa, will operate as part of Alila Hotels, their first US property.

The Gift-to-Share Program offers guests the option without the obligation to share "prizes" by allowing them to choose the amount to be donated to one of the local initiated or selected businesses or businesses by a hotel or resort.
