History
The Government of Indonesia sold Mandalika to Dubai Development Corporation for US $ 240 million in 2007. However, due to the global financial crisis in 2008 and funding shrinking, Emirates had no choice but to sell Mandalika back to the Indonesian government for half of the purchase price. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mandalika resort project on October 21, 2011. Six Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) on site development were signed along with the groundbreaking ceremony. The proposal to grant the zone's special economic status to the Mandalika resort area is based on Law No. 30/2011 on regulations covering the Special Economic Zone and included in Government Regulation No. 2 of 2011 (on Special Economic Zone Implementation).
