Calvin Richard Klein (born November 19, 1942) is an American fashion designer who launched a company that would later become Calvin Klein Inc., in 1968. In addition to clothing, he has also given his name to various perfumes, watches , and jewelry.

Initial years
Klein is a Hungarian Jewish American fashion designer. He was born into a Jewish family in The Bronx, New York, son of Flore (nÃÆ' Â © e Stern) and Leo Klein. He went to Isobel Rooney Middle School 80 (M.S.80) as a child. His father was an immigrant from Hungary while his mother was the daughter of an Austrian immigrant and an American dentist. He studied at the College of Art and Design and was accepted into school but never graduated from the New York Fashion Technology Institute, receiving an honorary Doctorate in 2003. He undertook an apprenticeship in 1962 in an old robe and suit manufacturer Dan Millstein. , and spent five years designing in other New York City stores. In 1968, he launched his first company with a childhood friend, Barry K. Schwartz.
Klein is one of the few design leaders raised in the Jewish immigrant community in the Bronx, along with Robert Denning and Ralph Lauren. Personal life
Klein married Jayne Center, a textile designer, in 1964. They have a daughter, Marci, who currently works as Talent Producer for NBC's Saturday Night Live. They divorced in 1974. In September 1986 Klein married his assistant, Kelly Rector, in Rome while they were on a shopping trip in Italy. He later became a famous socialite photographer. After separating in 1996, they divorced in April 2006. In 2003, Klein bought a marine front estate in Southampton, New York, and destroyed it to build a greenhouse and concrete for $ 75 million.
Klein is a Democratic Party supporter, having given over $ 250,000 to candidates and PAC since 1980.
Awards
In 1974, Klein designed a strict signature jeans that would have grossed $ 200,000 in the first week of their sale.
