The Indonesian citizenship law is the law governing who the Indonesian citizen is, the terms and means of obtaining Indonesian citizenship, the loss of Indonesian citizenship, the terms and means of regaining Indonesian citizenship, and the penalty provisions. The citizenship law is expressed in the Indonesian Constitution.
Indonesian national law is based on sanguinis juice and soli juice. The latest law governing Indonesian citizenship is Law no. 12/2006 (Law No. 12 of 2006). This law revokes Law no. 62/1958 (Law No. 62 of 1958).
Generally, Indonesian citizens are indigenous Indonesians and people from other countries supported by law as Indonesian citizens. Indonesian citizenship law does not recognize dual nationality except for persons under the age of 18 (single citizenship principle). After reaching the age of 18, the individual must choose one citizenship (the principle of limited dual citizenship).
