Threading is a hair removal method originating in Asia. In more recent times this has gained popularity in Western countries, especially with cosmetic applications (especially for eyebrow/shaping eyebrows).

Technique

In threading, thin threads (cotton or polyester) are duplicated, then rotated. It then rolls over the unwanted hair area, pulling hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where a single strand of hair is pulled out one by one, threading can eliminate short hair rows.

The advantage quoted for eyebrow tightening, compared with eyebrow waxing, is that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows and softer on the skin. This can be painful because some strands of hair are removed at once, but these can be minimized if done properly.

There are different techniques for threading. These include hand methods, mouth and neck methods. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages; However, the method of holding the mouth is the fastest and most appropriate.

Threading allows for more clear and precise forms and can create better definitions for eyebrows. It is also used as a method to remove unwanted hair throughout the face and upper lip area. Threading is not a good method to remove hair on the arms or legs, because the hair in the area is usually quite rough and there is too much to remove.
