The Small Hotels Group (MHG) is the owner of the hotel, operator and investor. It currently has 154 hotels, resorts and serviced suites in 22 countries in Asia Pacific, Middle East, Europe, South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean. The hotel group operates as a subsidiary of Minor International PCL, one of the largest hospitality and leisure companies in the Asia Pacific region. The Group operates hotels with the Anantara Hotels Resorts, and Spa, AVANI Hotels & amp; Resort, PER AQUUM Hotel & amp; Resort, Hotel Tivoli & amp; Resorts, Oaks Hotels & amp; Resort, Elewana Collection, Marriott Hotel & amp; Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, St. Regis, and Minor International.
US-born businessman William Heinecke founded the group in 1978 with the opening of Royal Garden Resort in Pattaya (later renamed Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa). Royal Garden Resorts was listed on the Thailand Stock Exchange in 1988.
The first property of the group brand, Anantara Hotels, Resorts, & amp; Spa, opened in the coastal city of Hua Hin in Thailand in 2001.
By 2018, allegations of animal cruelty appear in Thailand during 2018 The King's Cup Polo is held at the resort. It was a prestigious event with sponsors including Johnnie Walker, PwC, Peroni and IBM. Asia's People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a video showing a handler suspected of hitting an elephant with a bullhook and nudging a beast with the sharp metal of the instrument. PETA went on to document that the elephants were still beaten by handlers during the tournament in the following days, despite statements from the event organizers.

Launched in 2010 under the Anantara brand, Anantara Vacation Club is a collection of luxury villas and luxury ownership apartments located in various resort destinations for the use of their owners. In 2016, Portugal sees its biggest hotel deal when Minor Hotel Group acquires Tivoli Hotels & amp; Join a hotel chain of 14 properties across Portugal and Brazil. The acquisition, which marks the entry of MHG into Europe and Latin America, reached EUR294.2 million.
In 2015, Small Hotels joins Africa's luxury cabin and chain camp, the Elewana Collection, to add six camps in Kenya to its portfolio. . This addition is the result of the acquisition of the Cheli and Peacock group of companies by the Elewana Collection.
