American Family Insurance , also abbreviated as AmFam , is a privately owned, property-focused company, fatalities and auto insurance, and also offers commercial, life, health and coverage of homeowners as well as investment products and pension planning. A Fortune 500 company, revenues of more than $ 8.7 billion by 2016.
Should not be confused with American Family Home Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Munich Re subsidiary, American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., or the American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus.

History
The history of American Family Insurance began on October 3, 1927, when the insurer Herman Wittwer opened the door of the Mutual Farmers Insurance Company (not to be confused with the Farmers Insurance Group) in Madison, Wisconsin. At that time, the only company product was car insurance and its target market was farmers. Wittwer believes that farmers have lower risks than city drivers because they drive more often and not at all in winter.
Over the years, Mutual Farmers expanded their markets and product lines to meet changing customer needs. In 1963, Farmer Mutual changed its name to America's Mutual Family Insurance Company to reflect its broader customer base.

Awards
In 2010, the National Safety Council chose American Family Insurance as the recipient of the Teen Driving Safety Leadership Award. Through the "Safe Teenage Driver Program," the company has provided a video feedback program (using the DriveCam system) where parents can watch the actual driving actions of their teenagers. The program was validated by scientists at the University of Iowa to produce a 70% reduction in risky driving behavior.
Charitable Contributions
Family Family Family of America
On March 4, 2003, American Family Insurance announced a $ 10 million reward that launched a campaign to create Family Family American Hospitals at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. From the initial prize, that number increased by several million more through additional employees, agents, and corporate donations. The hospital opened for business in September 2007.
United Way
In 2007, and again in 2008, employees donated nearly $ 1 million to United Way.
American Family Dreams Foundation
