Jakarta Stock Exchange ( JSX ) or in Bahasa Indonesia Jakarta Stock Exchange ( BEJ ) is a stock exchange based in Jakarta, Indonesia, before joining the Surabaya Stock Exchange to establish the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

History
Originally opened in 1912 under Dutch colonial rule, it reopened in 1977 after several closures during World War I and World War II. Upon reopening in 1977, the exchange was under the management of the newly formed Capital Market Supervisory Agency (BAP), or Capital Market Supervisory Agency (Bapepam), which responded to the Minister of Finance. Trading activity and market capitalization grew in tandem with the development of financial markets and the private sector of Indonesia - highlighted by a major bull run in 1990. On July 13, 1992, the exchange was privatized under the ownership of Jakarta Exchange Inc. As a result, Bapepam's functions are changed to the Capital Market Supervisory Agency. On March 22, 1995, JSX launched the Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS). In September 2007, the Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchanges merged and were named the Indonesia Stock Exchange by the Indonesian Minister of Finance.

Stock index
Two of the major stock market indices used to measure and report value changes in representative groupings of shares are the JSX Composite and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). JII was established in 2002 to act as a benchmark in measuring market activity based on Sharia (Islamic law). Currently, there are about 30 listed companies listed in JII. The FTSE/ASEAN Index was launched by five ASEAN exchanges (the Singapore Exchange, the Bursa Malaysia, the Thai Stock Exchange, the Jakarta Stock Exchange, the Philippine Stock Exchange) and the global index provider of FTSE on September 21, 2005. The index, which covers five ASEAN markets, designed using international standards, free customized floats, and based on Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB). This index consists of FTSE/ASEAN Benchmark Index and FTSE/ASEAN 40 tradable index. The FTSE/ASEAN 40 index is calculated in real-time from 09:00 and the closing index is calculated at 6:00 am. (Singapore Time). The FTSE/ASEAN reference index is calculated based on the end of the day.
Merge
Both the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) and the Surabaya Stock Exchange (BES) merge to form a new entity "Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).
