Business history
Before making company
Katherine Noel Brosnahan (later known as Kate Spade) was born on 24 December 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Kansas City and went to a Catholic high school that was all women. He moved to Arizona, where he attended Arizona State University and graduated in 1985. There he met his future husband, Andy Spade. Katherine majored in journalism, while Andy majored in architecture.
In 1986, after completing their education, the couple moved to New York City. It was in New York that Katherine worked as a stylist editor for Mademoiselle, but left in 1991 (with the title of senior editor/head of accessory) to start her own handbag line. To gain inspiration, Kate explores local flea markets and thrift stores. He also examined the styles, fabrics, and potential production costs of making his own handbag. The team is slowly working up the social ladder until they are able to create a company that will be noticed by the public.
Initial stage
Kate Spade New York was founded in 1993 by Katherine Noel Brosnahan and her husband/business partner Andy Spade. Kate Spade of New York started after advice from Andy when Katherine was unsure about her career after moving six years at Mademoiselle. Initially, this business started with a Sam bag and only made a colorful living bag for consumers. Finally, Andy withdrew $ 35,000 from a 401K account to finance the production of Kate's bag. The debut line incorporates classic shapes, colors and fabrics into the now iconic little square with a small black label sewn to the outside of the bag that says "Kate Spade New York." Their main target market today is the upper middle class. In 1996, the Spade company opened its first store in SoHo New York City. Kate Spade rose within eight months after a journalist at Cleveland Research Co. recommends buying stocks due to the growth potential of the brand. Everywhere people go to New York from around 1997-2000, it's impossible not to see women carrying that simple nylon bag. This business is one of the first of its kind to use digital, using iPad, cell phones, and computers, as part of the daily routine of working in one of its stores. The company started from scratch, and after 1998 began to grow, with sales of $ 27 million. In 2006, revenues were reportedly close to $ 99 million. In 1999, Neiman Marcus Group paid $ 34 million for 56% of the company's shares. And in 2006, Neiman Marcus Group acquired the remaining 44% stake in Kate Spade for $ 59.4 M which valued the company at $ 134 M.
Next stage
In 2004, Kate Spade only operated 13 stores in the United States, and was not shipped overseas (Cohen 198). The company initially sold handbags, but eventually expanded to include stationery, personal organizers, address books, shoes, beauty products, perfumes, raincoats, pajamas, and eyeglasses. Now has a full line of women's clothing. Business clothing and handbags are featured in retail stores across America. Products easily and continuously shipped worldwide. In 2004, Kate Spade & amp; Co is worth $ 70 million, excluding the free company Jack Spade. Kate Spade has more than 180 stores worldwide, and is sold in over 400 stores worldwide (Cohen 198). Kate and Andy went from taking "no black bags" to creative personal wallets, now they make merchandise from simple tote to home decor and bedding. In November 2006, the clothing giant, Liz Claiborne Inc. bought Kate Spade for $ 124 million from Neiman Marcus Group. Andy Spade was initially responsible for the company's operations, but, in 2007 after the company's sales, operational control was handed over to Liz Claiborne. Kate Spade expanded their retail stores to include Kate Spade New York Outlets. This brand has more than 47 outlet locations throughout the United States (Outlet Sheet). The stores offer Kate Spade New York bags, clothing, jewelry and accessories at a discount. Kate Spade New York products are also sold in major department stores including Nordstrom, Macy's, and Dillard's. New York's Kate Spade handbags, apparel, accessories, and home products can be found in these great department stores. Kate Spade Home products are also sold in Bed, Bath and Beyond. In January 2017, Kate Spade of New York also launched an exclusive collection with Williams-Sonoma including cutlery, glassware, and cutlery.
Tapestry, Inc. buy Kate Spade & amp; The Company in July 2017 amounted to $ 2.4 billion.

Merchandise
Kate Spade's first bag was sold in January 1993. Shortly after the initial product was released, a new collection came out containing glasses, jewelry, and other small accessories (winter 36). In 2007, "kate spade in home" was launched as a home collection brand. It features a bed, bath items, porcelain, and various items for home and wallpaper. In April 2013, Kate Spade New York launched a new perfume called Live Colorful. Previous home perfumes include Kate Spade from 2003 and Twirl from 2010. Live Colorful is a home made fragrance that marks the 20th anniversary of the brand. Every Spade product sold is packaged, and each has a card that gives Kate and Andy's travel description up.
Jack Spade
Jack Spade is a complement to the Kate Spade brand for men. Operated as an independent business with its own visual identity, website, e-commerce platform, and physical store for nearly twenty-three years, Jack Spade is a line of furniture for men. Jack Spade's range of products includes fully furnished furniture for men known as handbags, but also manufactures small leather goods (such as wallets, passport holders, coin purses, and phone casing), clothing (including all types of men's wear), watches, and technology goods.
Bag for Men
Jack Spade handbags for men follow a design aesthetic similar to their Kate Spade counterpart, with a bag that features clean lines, silhouettes and timeless shapes, and creates a very practical bag designed around the lifestyle of its customers. Where Jack and Kate Spade are different is in the material, colors, and "pop" that make Kate Spade so iconic. Jack Spade handbags serve men, offering a much softer and timeless material and style by a time that is much less likely to attract attention to themselves or make strong brand claims. Blending styles of European fashion designers (such as Salvatore Ferragamo and Prada) with the approachable and tactile practicality of outsourced/adventurous manufacturers (such as Filson and Thule), Jack Spade struck chords with a modern metropolitan man looking for a masculine yet elegant bag. This stylish, calm style attracts men's attention to this brand for nearly two decades.
Jack Spade handbags are immediately identified by brand labels (or hot-stamped stamps) that are always placed in the corner of the bag. Original Jack Spade handbags display a black fabric label embroidered with "Jack Spade, Warren Street, New York" sewn in a flap corner or panel. The newer bag has an embossed "Jack Spade" or "Jack Spade, New York" feature on cloth or leather patch. All Jack Spade bags include fabric identification cloths on the inside of bags for owners to fill.
All Jack Spade bags are named by series. For example, one of the staple goods of the brand is the Wayne backpack, which is recreated season after season in new materials.
Messenger Bags
Jack Spade is known for many series of messenger bags. Often designed as a single compartment leather bag, it is secured by flap closure and two buttons.
Backpack Bag
Jack Spade backpack series for men is one of the most recognizable bags of the brand. Series like "Wayne" and "Nolan" are constant staples in the brand collection. Wayne's backpacks come in a variety of materials, mostly leather, nylon, and canvas; and included a roomy interior, four metal legs, and removable shoulder straps. Jack Spade's backpack is often featured in the best travel gear list for men with famous publications.
Coal Bag
Jack Spade took inspiration from the bag engineers used to carry coal in the 1920s and large stylish tote bags for men coming out of the heavy-duty industrial canvas. Over the years, this coal bag has been renewed and redesigned with design elements such as pops color (or "dipped" in vernacular Jack Spade), and remanufactured in leather, suede, canvas and nylon.
Special Edition The 20th Birthday Bag Coal is designed in an old industrial canvas with "JACK" on the right front of the bag. It is available on both dark blue canvas with white stripes and cream-colored canvas â ⬠<â â¬
All Jack Spade outlets were closed permanently in January 2015 after the acquisition of Kate Spade by Tapestry (formerly Group Coach) with Kate Spade on Saturday. The closure of the brick and the location of this mortar prompted the transition from "Jack Spade, Warren Street, New York" to brand icon labels to simply "Jack Spade" or "Jack Spade, New York." Important locations include the Los Angeles boutique in Abbot Kinney in Venice, CA., and boutique at Warren Street in New York City.
Jack Spade's separate and dedicated dedicated e-commerce platform left in mid-2017, becoming part of sixteen items entitled "Gifts for her" on Kate Spade's website. A complete product line with staples such as Coal Bags, backpacks, purses, small leather goods, and apparel was brought in the Amazon throughout 2017, but by June 2018, Amazon did not seem to be inoculating supplies, discounting goods and allowing them to permanently sold out.
