Bank Indonesia (BI) is the central bank of the Republic of Indonesia. Agus Martowardojo, formerly finance minister, is the current governor. The last governor before Agus Martowardojo was Darmin Nasution who resigned on May 23, 2013. Agus Martowardojo was inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on May 23, 2013.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati was proposed as a candidate for BI governor in 2009. However, the proposal was not continued and he left the cabinet on 5 May 2010 and moved to the World Bank Group as Managing Director. [1] [2]
On March 26, 2013, a panel of Indonesian lawmakers approved Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo to become central bank governor.

King William I of the Netherlands granted the right to create a bank in the Indies in 1826 which was named " De Javasche bank " or " The Java Bank ". Established on January 24, 1828 and later became the Dutch Indies circulation bank. The Bank organizes and publishes the Dutch Indies gulese.

Bank Indonesia was established on 1 July 1953 from the nationalization of De Javasche Bank, three years after the recognition of Indonesian independence by the Dutch.

This ended with Act No.13/1968 on the Central Bank, which was subsequently replaced by Law No.23/1999, granting bank independence.
After that, the bank reports to the parliament (the House of Representatives) instead of the president, and the bank's governor is no longer a member of the cabinet.

Organization
The bank is headed by a board of governors, composed of governors, a senior deputy governor and among the four and seven deputy governors.
The governor and deputy governor shall serve for five years, and qualify for reelection for a maximum of two terms. The governor and senior vice governor are nominated and appointed by the president, with the consent of the House of Representatives. The vice-governor is nominated by the governor and appointed by the president, with the consent of the People's Legislative Assembly. The President does not have the power to dismiss a member of the council, except when a council member voluntarily resigns, is permanently disabled, or found guilty of a criminal offense.
Board of Governors Meeting is the bank's highest decision-making forum. It is held at least once a month to decide on general policy on monetary affairs, and at least once a week to evaluate policy implementation or to decide on strategic policies and other principles.
The World Bank is active in promoting financial inclusion policies and is a prominent member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion. It hosted the AFI's second annual Global Policy Forum (GPF) [3] in Bali, Indonesia in 2010. On May 14, 2012 Bank Indonesia announced it will make a special commitment to financial inclusion under the Mayan Declaration.
Until December 30, 2013, the bank's microprudential supervisory function will be transferred to the Financial Services Authority (Indonesia). In the future, the bank will maintain Indonesia's monetary system and monetary stability through a mix of monetary and macroprudential instruments and policies.

Payment Gateway National
The goal is to integrate all Automatic Teller Machines in ASEAN countries, starting with the first integration in each country. On January 16, 2012, interconnection between ATM Bank Mandiri and ATM Bank Central Asia (ATM Prima) was launched.
Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support
Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support is an Indonesian government policy formulated with Bank Indonesia during the crisis period and implemented by Bank Indonesia to save the monetary and banking system and the economy as a whole. It was partly based on Presidential instruction and command in a limited meeting of economic, financial, and supervisory development and production and distribution on September 3, 1997.
This policy was provided under various emergency lending schemes (I/Fasdis I Discount Facility, Fasdis II, SBPU Facility, SBPUK Facility, New Discount Facility and Bailout Fund).
