Kuta âââ ⬠administratively is a district (kecamatan) and a district/village (kelurahan) in southern Bali, Indonesia. A former fishing village, it is one of the first cities in Bali to see a substantial tourist development, and as a beach resort remains one of Indonesia's premier tourist destinations. The place is internationally known for its long sandy beaches, varied accommodations, many restaurants and bars, and many famous surfers visiting from Australia. Located near Ngurah Rai Airport Bali.
Kuta is the site of the Bali bombing of October 12, 2002 (202 killed) and the Bali bombing on October 2, 2005 (26 killed).
The Bali Provincial Government has taken the view that the preservation of Balinese culture, natural resources and wildlife is of primary importance in island development. For this purpose they have limited tourism development to the peninsula in the extreme south aspect of the island; Kuta Beach is on the western side of this peninsula and Sanur is in the east. In the north of the peninsula there is no new tourist development that should be allowed..
To the south, Kuta Beach â ⬠extends beyond the airport to Jimbaran. Other nearby towns and villages include Seseh (6.4 nm), Denpasar (4.5 nm), Ujung (1.8 nm), Pesanggaran (2.0 nm), Kedonganan (2.9 nm), and Tuban (1 , 0 nm).

Administration
Kuta District (Indonesian: Kuta Sub-district ) covers subdistricts/villages of Kuta Village, Legian, Seminyak, Kedonganan, and Tuban. Furthermore, Badung Regency has 3 districts with the name Kuta: Kuta, Kuta South District Kuta Selatan District (Jimbaran and the whole Nusa Dua peninsula), and Kuta North District Kecamatan Kuta Utara (villages of Kerobokan Klod, Kerobokan, Kerobokan Kaja, Tibubeneng, Canggu, and Dalung).
Kuta is now a tourist-oriented urban center that extends to neighboring towns. Legian, in the north, is the commercial hub of Kuta and home to many restaurants and entertainment venues. Most beach hotels in this area are in the southern part of Tuban.
Legian and Seminyak are extensions north of Kuta along Jl. Legian and Jl. Baseball. They are a quieter suburb with cottage-style accommodation, where many people live there. Also in the north are Petitenget, Berawa, Canggu, and Seseh - a new and quieter continuation of Kuta beach. They are easy to reach through Abian Timbul or Denpasar and Kerobokan. Some of the major hotels are located in this area: Oberoi Bali, Hard Rock Hotel Bali, Intan Bali Village, Legian at Petitenget, Dewata Beach, and Bali Sani Suites in Berawa.

Bali bombing memorial
After the first Bali bombing of 2002 in Kuta, which killed 202 people including 88 Australians, a permanent warning was built at the site of a ruined Paddy's Pub on Jalan Legian. (A new bar, named "Paddy's: Reloaded", reopened further along Jalan Legian.) The memorial is made of intricate carved stone, with a large marble plaque, bearing the name and nationality of every person killed. It is flanked by the national flag of the victims. The monument is well preserved and illuminated at night.
The warning was dedicated on October 12, 2004, the second warning of the attack. Dedication includes Bali Hindu ceremonies and opportunities for mourners to lay flowers and other offerings. Australian ambassadors and Indonesian officials attended the ceremony because most of the victims were Australians.
Kuta Beach
This beach is famous since the early 1970s. Kuta Beach is also known as Sunset Beach, as opposed to Sunrise Beach, another name for Sanur Beach. Luxury resorts, restaurants and clubs are located along the beach.
In 2011, a two-meter-long white sandstone fence, built in Balinese architectural style, was built along the way to block sand from blowing into cafes and restaurants. The project cost Rp4 billion ($ 0.47 million). Some tourists do not like it because it is considered blocking the view of the beach, while some believe that the wall helps muffle the sound from the streets. To make beach cleaners, at the end of August 2011, sellers are prohibited from selling food at Kuta Beach, but they are still allowed to sell drinks and souvenirs.
Tourism â ⬠<â â¬
Kuta is famous in Bali for being a cheap tourist destination for Australians because of its close proximity.
In popular culture
Kuta was mentioned in "I've Been To Bali Too", single by Australian folk-rock band Redgum from their 1984 Frontline album. It is also home to the Indonesian punk rock band Superman Is Dead, most famous for his English song "Kuta Rock City".
