Twilo is an American nightclub operating from 1995 to 2001 in New York City and from 2006 to 2007 in Miami. The New York location at 530 West 27th Street in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan regularly attracts thousands of people to the dance floor like a barn. Playing host to dozens of legendary DJs from around the world, the club is important in popularizing the international style of home music and trance music in the United States.

Club Nights

Twilo usually keeps at least one small room open almost every night of the week, but weekends are much busier. Friday night saw a younger crowd of young and alternative people. Twilo regularly features American and European DJs that play trance, techno, and house music. Sasha and John Digweed have a monthly residency at the club, playing every last Friday of every month. Beginning in 2001 after Sasha suffered an ear injury in a car accident and not a DJ, John Digweed played all 8 hours of his own time slot until the club's closure in May. Other DJs often play like Paul van Dyk, Carl Cox, Robert Fauver, Richie Hawtin alias (Plastikman), Danny Tenaglia, Merritt, Jeff Mills, Steve Lawler, Paul Oakenfold, Pete Marvelous, Pete Tong, Dan DJ, and Sven VÃÆ'Â th.

The Saturday night event was hosted by DJ Junior Vasquez residents. In line with other superclubs like Tunnel and Roxy, Saturday night Twilks seems gay-oriented but attracts some direct visitors.

Twilo also comes with an advanced sound system known as Phazon. This sound system, originally built by Steve Dash, was at that time unique to the venue. The sound system in Twilo is highly respected by customers and DJs alike due to the quality of the voice. Some DJs go as far as leaving DJ booths to hear their favorite recordings on the dance floor. After the closing of the club, the sound system is sold to Club Shelter.

John Digweed, on his Transition radio show on September 4, 2009, played an hour from one of his sets at Twilo from January 2001. He was quoted as saying, "I have dug into my vault and I have found an hour from when I played in Twilo , the legendary club in New York City It's just under nine years ago I recorded this set, and I have to say.. without hesitation.. my favorite club I've ever played In the world, unbelievable, 5 years I spent in there with Sasha is a great time, a fun time in my life, and a crowd that makes those nights so special. "In the middle of the Digweed set was also quoted as saying:" This is definitely one of the legendary clubs that if you do not get a chance to go, it would be embarrassing, because the sound system, the setting, the lighting, and the whole vibration are really incredible. Closing

Twilo has been under pressure to close since Mayor Rudy Giuliani since the launch of a controversial quality of life campaign. However, the club managed to hold a cabaret license until early 2001, when a spate of previous allegations reappeared in connection with claims by city authorities that the club had abused a private ambulance to hide the victim overdose. In fact, the club management claimed that the ambulance was obtained with a recommendation from the city.

Several run-ins with New York city authorities beginning in 1998 about drug-related incidents apparently caused the city to stonewall apps back clubs in October 2000 for cabaret licenses, a requirement for all dance venues in New York City. In July 2000 James Wiest, a scholar from Johns Hopkins University found unconscious in the back room. She was allegedly put into the lobby after fainting on the dance floor. He later died of an alleged drug overdose. The club was never charged in his death. This is not the first fatal overdose associated with Twilo.

In June 1998, a 22-year-old NYU graduate named Brigit Murray died from what was first seen as a drug overdose at Twilo but was concluded by medical professionals to become an aneurysm triggered by the first-ever use of ecstasy. Brigit Murray's friends had told the police that when he actually visited the club last night, his death did not happen there. Nearly 20 years later it was revealed by a close friend of Brigit who was with him that night that they actually did not buy Ecstasy at Twilo, but instead narcotics was sent by post from a friend's cousin in Miami - completely free Twilo New York from any obligations related to Brigit's case. Another charge was that the undercover police over a period of eight months, also in 1998, had made 18 purchases of drugs (of which two resulted in the arrest). Daniel S. Connolly of the New York City Law Department stated: "There is a series of serious public security issues of grave concern [...] We believe we can convince the court that this is not a responsible organization that must continue to operate. people are dying there [showing that] there is a pattern of careless indifference to the safety of customers. "Twilo's management on the other hand insists that the club has done everything in its power to calm the city authorities and even take extreme measures such as hiring three secret guards. It appears to be in connection with allegations against the club due to a lack of response to previous drug incidents that the decision to keep an EMT ambulance in the club during opening hours is made.

During the early hours of May 6, 2001, Twilo was raided and the occupants were evicted. Authorities say the reason for the closure is the expired Residence Certificate. The club remains closed due to its inability to fulfill the long list of city mandates and regulations. Twilo's sound system, disco ball and tents were sold online shortly thereafter, ending speculation that it might be reopened in the near future.

The building will be used as several different nightclubs over the years before finally falling into disrepair. A decade after the closure of Twilo, the used warehouse found new uses as the new home of the immersive theater playing Sleepless More. Although renovated very much like the canon location of play at the McKittrick Hotel, the space in the still-recognizable building of the Twilo days includes the dance floor, renovated to resemble a ballroom, and a second-floor bar, which reuses the counter to appear as a hotel lobby.

Twilo Miami

On July 22, 2006, Twilo opened its location in the entertainment district of Miami, Florida. Their flagship Saturday night drew the majority of gay clients, although the club encouraged the mixed crowd. The DJs like Junior Vasquez, Peter Rauhofer, and Miami native Abel play consistently. Danny Tenaglia holds a monthly residency on the spot on the second or third Friday of every month, depending on the tour and studio schedule. Like its predecessor New York, Twilo Miami features a custom Phazon sound system, with the club acting as an unofficial showroom for Phazon. The sophisticated lighting walls produced by Element Labs wrap each side of the dance floor, and are programmed and operated by veteran lighting director Drew Bongiorno. Due to economic pressure, Twilo Miami closed in June 2007.

Music Influence

Simon Noble & amp; Rowan Blade collaborated to produce some songs under the guise of 'Breeder'. One of these tracks, named after the club is called 'Twilo Thunder' (the Twilo sound system is known for its thunderous bass, as well as clear mid and high.) This system sometimes produces a bass sound that will mimic a lightning storm, hence the name Twilo Thunder. According to Noble: "As breeders, we try to make progressive home floor fillers at the top of time, and our goal is to make the rocks so good that Sasha and Digweed will play them. The first song we wrote was 'The Chain' and 'Twilo Thunder' we gave it directly to Sasha and John Digweed and for over a year they played it all over the world at clubs like Twilo in New York and Tyrant in London. "

There is also a song named West on 27 by Killahurtz made to honor the legendary club.
