Jalan Jaksa (abbreviated as Jaksa Jaksa) is a short road about 400 meters long in Menteng sub-district in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. Located about 1 km south of the national museum, Monas and west of the Gondangdia railway station. The road connects Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim to Jalan Kebon Sirih. A six-meter-wide road offers travelers the opportunity to get cheap accommodation, and of course the nightlife. It was designed as the main choice of foreign and domestic backpackers visiting Jakarta.

Histori

In Indonesian Attorney means lawyer. During the Dutch colonial period it was a gathering place for law students from Rechts Hogeoschool . In the late 1960s Jl. Prosecutors are becoming known internationally among backpackers through the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF). In 1968, Nathanael Lawalata, general secretary of the Indonesian Youth Association, converted his home into a hotel to set up Wisma Delima. This is not only the first hotel on Jl Jaksa but also the only hotel in Jakarta that is internationally registered by IYHF. In 1993, the Jakarta Tourism Office stated that 57,201 foreign tourists had visited hotels and hostels on the streets and surrounding areas, including 29,676 Europeans, 9,309 Australians, 4,215 Americans and 649 Africans. The average length of stay of foreign tourists on Jalan Jaksa is three days.

On 5-7 August 1994, the first annual Jaksa street festival was held. Street festivals aim to increase the popularity of the road and at the same time celebrate the culture of Jakarta's native, known as the Betawi people. The 1998 monetary crisis, the 2002 Bali bombing, the 2004 embassy bombings in Jakarta and the 2005 decision to reduce the standard tourist visa from 60 to 30 days reduced the number of budget travelers on Jalan Jaksa. Many backpackers decide to live directly in other parts of Indonesia rather than spending 10% of their 30 day visa in Jakarta.

The locals on the street have taken steps to prevent the Islamic radicals intimidating tourists during the sweep, which was threatened in the early 2000s. The prosecutors are still the main budget accommodation and the low-budget entertainment avenue in Jakarta.

Attractions

Although this street is not touristy, modern or developed like in the streets of Kuta, Bali or Khaosan in Bangkok, this place is still popular among backpackers. Travelers choose to stay on Jalan Jaksa because they can integrate with local culture and feel the atmosphere of downtown Jakarta in a convenient, but affordable way with facilities including travel agents, used bookstores, money changers, laundry, pubs, etc. The location of Jalan Jaksa in the city center also makes it easier to explore the tourist attractions in Jakarta. The streets are not just a place for backpackers but also a gathering place for expatriates living nearby.

There are also many shops, hotels, offices and restaurants on Jalan Wahid Hasim, Sabang Street (Jalan Agus Salim), Teuku Cik Di Tiro Street, Kebon Sirih Street and Jalan Menteng Raya, adjacent to Jalan Jaksa. Jalan Sabang is a popular culinary destination in Jakarta.
